A not so retired life in Bucerias Mexico
Nestled in the picturesque beach town of Bucerias, Nayarit Mexico, Marilyn and Jim Moxin defy the stereotype of retirees leading a leisurely life. What sets them apart is their unwavering commitment to the elderly community in Bucerias, a town they've called home for many years.
Despite the prevalent belief that Mexican culture inherently values familial ties and supports its elders, the reality can be starkly different. With younger generations seeking opportunities elsewhere, many seniors are left alone and forgotten, without adequate support or resources. Recognizing this pressing need, Marilyn and Jim took action.
Every other weekend, alongside a team of dedicated volunteers, Marilyn and Jim embark on a mission to deliver essential supplies to the elderly residents of Bucerias. These dispenses, comprising food and other necessities, serve as a lifeline for many who are living in dire conditions, often without electricity or even a proper bed.
Yet, the Moxins understood that temporary aid wasn't enough. Thus, the vision for Casa De La Paz was born—a care home for the needy elderly in their community. Determined to turn this dream into reality, they tirelessly advocated for their cause, rallying support at local farmers' markets and Rotary Club meetings.
Their perseverance paid off when they found an ally in Carlos Grimaldi, a local developer moved by their compassion and dedication. With his expertise and connections, coupled with the generosity of the local Ejido, a plot of land was generously gifted for the construction of Casa De La Paz.
Now, as Casa De La Paz nears completion, Marilyn and Jim's mission is far from over. They continue to mobilize support for furnishing the home and ensuring its readiness to welcome seniors with dignity and comfort.
As they invite others to join their cause through initiatives like room sponsorship and bench donations, Marilyn and Jim embody the spirit of community and compassion. Their journey serves as a testament to the power of individuals to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Casa De La Paz stands not just as a building, but as a beacon of hope—a symbol of a community united in ensuring that its elderly members are never forgotten, but instead, cherished and supported in their twilight years.
